Southwest Coast National Scenic Area

When the outstanding young Cheng Feng-hsi of Kouhu Township died in the prime of life, his widow built this library in his memory. It displays artifacts from Cheng's life and provides an environment, along with written materials, where the local youth can better themselves through learning. The 500-ping (one ping equals 3.3 square meters) library is designed around Cheng's autobiography, A Boat in the Vast Ocean, and from a distance resembles a boat with sails raised in a sea of lustrous green rice paddies.
