Wangye Boat-burning Ceremony gains fame nationwide The Mecca for Dongshi fishermen, Xiantian Temple is a sea-facing, stately structure built more than 300 years ago. The temple is dedicated to the Wangyes (or “Ciansui”, the plaque gods) of five families. It holds the Wangye Boat-burning Ceremony once every five years as the most important religious ritual in memory of the Wangye Boat received long ago from Waisanding Sand Bar. Offering a wide variety of prizes for three consecutive days, the Lantern Quiz event that marks the Lantern Festival is also a century-old tradition.
