The Budai Salt Fields are located across the coastal townships of Dongshi, Budai and Yizhu. The 2,000-hectare salt field area used to consist of ten manufacturing bases that were overseen by six offices located along a north-south axis. TAIYEN suffered declining sales due to mechanization and a privatization initiative, and currently the premises of Budai Salt Fields contain nothing but the salt mountain and a “do-it-yourself” salt-making area introduced by the Budaizui Cultural Association. The site serves as a memorial of Taiwan’s once-thriving salt-making industry.
