According to the legend, during the Daoguang Regime of the Ching Dynasty, to mourn people living along the coast of Jinhu Harbor killed in typhoons and pestilence, the Pulling Water Zhuang ritual was held during June 7-8 of the Lunar Calendar to partly comfort the souls of the dead and partly to commemorate the miseries and sufferings of ancestors traveling across the strait and cultivating this land. The Pulling Water Zhuang ritual held by the Wanshan Temple and its branch Jinhu Wanshanye Temple in Ganziliao, Kouhu Township, Yuenlin County, are the most special and most splendid local temple rituals to worship people killed in floods.
