Aqua-culture in Cigu |
The inshore fishing and culture industries have a long history on the southwest coast. As the wetlands along the coast provide rich organic nutrients and a complete food chain, they become the ideal environment for fishes, shrimp, shells and crabs to grow and proliferate. This also nourishes the rich fish resources in the area. Together with the lagoons that are formed by the offshore shoals and lands, oyster, clam, shrimp and fish cultures gradually developed into a business there. In addition to the products from the inshore fishing, sea oysters and milkfish are the most famous seafood in the area. As sea oysters are big and delicious and the meat of milkfish is tender and juicy, the processed foods like fish rolls, fish balls, dried fish floss and fish sausages are the favorite gifts of visitors. Moreover, the Callista chinensis of Dongshih, wild clams and Cyclina sinensis of Budai, the mudskipper of Beimen, the karasumi of Jiangjyun, and the seawater tilapia of Cigu are seafood specialties of these places.
